OOC INFORMATION
Name: Tsu

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Dante the demon killer
Age: Canon age never specified, but I put him in his early twenties
Canon: DmC: Devil May Cry ( aka the reboot that everyone seems to hate )
Canon Point: Post-game
Character Information: Dante's page on the DmC wiki. ( Though I have legitimately played through the entire game as well as Vergil's DLC at least five times in the past few months, so if anything needs elaborating on, please let me know and I'll be happy to write you a novel. )

Personality:

bad day for a hangover.

Where to start? I guess we could begin by saying that to say that Dante is full of himself would be like saying that the sun is hot. That grass is green. That demons are generally bad. ( He answers a knock to his trailer door butt naked, for crying out loud. Of course, that might just be his complete and total lack of modesty talking. But we'll talk about that later. Maybe. )

To analyze his exterior, it's pretty much what you see is what you get. He's very rarely without a cocky little smirk or an eyeroll, whether in irritation or mocking the fact that someone is trying to explain something to him that he thinks he already understands. ( Or doesn't much care to, either way. He does this to Vergil all the damn time – it's a wonder his brother can ever get a word in edgewise. ) Pair that with a penchant for coming up with a smart-assed comment regardless of whether or not it's justified, and you've got a pretty textbook case of your average punk, a little shit that thinks he knows everything and is more than happy to prove that he does whether you want him to or not.

And whether he actually knows a damn bit of what he's talking about or not, to boot. "Cocksure" is a good adverb to use here. I think I'll do that. Cocksure, smug, self-assured to a level that only ever comes from someone that has never really had to work very hard for anything before in their lives, never been told 'no' and had it stick. He thinks he owns the ground he walks on, the space he occupies and it might be the fact that he believes it all that it works for him.

Until someone manages to come along and call his bluff, though there haven't been many instances in which that's actually happened. He might not come off as all that intimidating to the demons he stares down and ultimately tears into, but that doesn't mean he doesn't try. ( It also doesn't mean it doesn't work, either. )

what in the shitting hell is going on here?

He has one hell of a mouth on him. And he doesn't ever bother censoring himself, not that anyone should expect it from him in the first place. He'll be the first to say what's on his mind – it doesn't matter what it is, if it's completely contradictory to anything anyone else has said. Opinions are like assholes, as they say. Everyone has one, and he has enough for the entire planet at some times. He's going to say what he has to say even if no one is listening, but chances are there's at least one person out there intrigued just a tiny bit by something cooked up in that brain of his.

Even if it's not the smartest thing. Not the brightest crayon in the box, this one, but he's not stupid, either. He can just occasionally be a little slow on the uptake and it'll take him a minute to catch up – or, if you're talking technology or using big words he doesn't understand, he might ask you to run it by him again. Just to make sure he gets it all. ( And then he'll think about it some more to himself, break it up and pick it apart into smaller, more manageable pieces. But don't you dare tell Vergil that. That motherfucker isn't smarter than him at all. )

i didn't ask for your help.

He's a loner. Both by choice and circumstance, he's more than content with his lifestyle of taking a couple of ladies home for the night and waking up to find them gone in the morning. ( And quite possibly with a note written in lipstick on his arm for him to ~call them~. Wild nights, man. Maybe fighting demons with one hell of a hangover is kiiiind of worth it sometimes. ) It means not forming attachments, which means not having to worry about caring about someone other than himself – not having to worry about whether or not the people around him are who, or what they say they are.

Lemme tell ya – finding out as a child that you're surrounded by evil, surrounded by those with the intention to harm you when they should be protecting you is a real kick in the teeth. And does wonders for your trust issues. ( By which I mean, of course, that it ends up with a young nephilim that would rather keep himself isolated than risk putting himself in the hands of someone that could ultimately betray him.

It also means that once this young nephilim begins to take a stand against the demons that surround him, he begins to question whether or not he can still call himself human. One hell of a question to ask yourself, huh? Sheesh. Just because you're surrounded by demons doesn't mean you are one yourself, Dante. )

He also has a problem with authority. Like, no. Seriously. Fuck the police.

i never asked for your help, but you gave it, and i appreciate it. i trust you.
you can trust me, too.

Now, while he likes to act like he doesn't care about anything other than himself – and initially, that might have been true – the shifts in his personality really begin to come to light the further the game progresses. The moment he learns about his past, remembers the things that Sparda hid from both him and his twin brother, it's pretty clear that he wants to do something about Mundus. Not only for having killed his mother and sentenced his father to an eternity of torture, but to end his reign of tyranny altogether. Because no one deserves to have that much power, much less a dickless sack of shit that prides himself far too much in wreaking any and all kind of hell he can muster up.

He doesn't only fight to slay demons for himself. Not anymore – not once he realizes what it will mean if the world is free of demons once and for all. ( Even if it doesn't quite work in his favor … or, rather, it might have worked if he didn't have a deluded twin brother hell-bent on ruling humankind on his own. "We won't enslave our subjects," he says. That's a crock of bullshit and you both know it. Get off your high horse and stop huffing whatever it is you've been huffing. You're on drugs, brother. )

The point is that he evolves from someone who is completely self-serving to something more, even if by the end of the whole ordeal he claims not to know who he is anymore. He nearly kills his own flesh and blood just to keep him from taking over in Mundus' place, having been unable to persuade him to change his mind – but it's Kat's reassurance that ultimately talks him into some of that old self-assurance that he's had with him for so long. Sure, he might still have a foul mouth and try to get away with ridiculously cheesy one-liners, he might still think he's god's gift to women and occasionally have the attention span of a gnat, but he grows into something so much more than he probably ever thought he would be.

Because caring about people is a difficult business, as is taking responsibility for your own actions, owning up to them and taking the fall when things don't pan out – but once he's decided on something, had it cemented in his mind? You can bet your ass he's going to make sure it happens.

And he'll be entirely unrepentant the whole way down.

i chose my path, and i lived by it. and after all that anger, violence and death, you have to dig deep
deep into your own heart, to see if you're still sane. or if you can still call yourself
human.

Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, or EITHER? I think I'd like him to get a monster that fits him.
Opt-Outs: Werebear & arachne. I won't be too picky this time around, promise.
